It’s pretty interesting to see the different reactions you get when you mention the word, “remodel.” Some people perk up and get excited to hash out the details. Others get stressed out and try to avoid it at all costs by purchasing a turnkey home. Remodeling can be stressful because of the wide variety of subcontractors and specialized work that go into it, the number of things that can go wrong, and the possibility of going over budget. Despite this, we want to give a reminder to not skip an important step in the process – to dream.
Take some time to really assess what you love and what makes you happy. What are your short term goals? Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years? What are your non-negotiables? I know this sounds like a silly thing for an electrical company to be recommending, but let me give you an example of how this ties in to what we do. If you are like me and your feet are always cold, having NuHeat floors would make you very happy because you want your nice new house to keep your feet warm. Maybe a non-negotiable for you is having an underground panel because youdon’t want powerline wires to obstruct the killer new view from your back deck. These are all very important details that, without knowing exactly what makes you happy, will be hard to decide on.
Our favorite thing to do here at JEB Electric is to dream with our clients as they work through a remodel. We love to listen to what the homeowner and their contractor are doing and provide feedback, ideas, and recommendations. This is your home and it’s important for it to be the way you want it to be, because after the remodel you are the one who has to live in it!
